May 26, 2021 MONTCLAIR, N.J. – Councilor-at-Large Peter Yacobellis announced Wednesday the Montclair LGBTQ Equality Agenda for 2021 which seeks to update some Township policies and laws over the month of June, to be enacted by summer. Administrative changes have been recently completed. Proposed ordinances and resolution are scheduled for initial consideration at June Township Council meetings. “Since coming into office, I’ve had deep and thorough conversations with our Township staff and my colleagues on the Council and have found the incredible support you would expect to see in Montclair to move this Equality Agenda forward. As the first openly LGBTQ person elected in Montclair, it is a top priority for me to make sure Montclair is the model community, in every way, for LGBTQ equality. He assumes the role from Tom Merchel, who is stepping down from the position to focus on his role as the township s chief financial officer. Council has been engaged in an exhaustive search for a Township Manager since February and has screened over 30 candidates for the position, Moorestown Mayor Nicole Gillespie said. Kevin has a long-standing commitment to our community, extensive experience in municipal law and is deeply knowledgeable of the many complex issues we are dealing with in Moorestown. There s just no question that he is the right person for the job, and we are thrilled that he has agreed to serve as township manager. ....

MAPLE SHADE The fire department Friday said it is seeking legal action to get back in its fire hall and resume services following the township s decision to suspend the department for 90 days. The news came a day after residents and community members demanded answers about the 90-day suspension of The Independent Fire Company No.1. Our building which is owned and deeded to Independent Fire Company No. 1 was illegally entered and seized by the Township Manager and council without any due process or notice. Our legal council is working diligently to get access to our building, the department said in a social media post Friday. ....

The township s Food Truck Fridays and The Sounds of Summer Concert Series will resume this year, after both events were either modified or cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Springettsbury Township s concert series will be held every Sunday and Wednesday from June 6 through Aug. 1, according to Township Manager Mark Hodgkinson. All concerts will start at 7 p.m. and will be followed with a fireworks show at 9:15 p.m., Hodgkinson said.
