Rabid Islamism of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan: As is evident, TLP thrives due to two factors: the over-inflated role of military in civilian affairs and the entrenchment of political Islam as a crucial tool in electoral battles.
Three names proposed to review TLP’s application
Federal cabinet to approve setting up committee
ISLAMABAD:
The Ministry of Interior on Wednesday suggested three names for a committee which would be constituted to hear a review petition of the outlawed Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) on the ban imposed on it.
The ministry sent the summary to Prime Minister Imran Khan in this regard. The approval for the constitution of the panel will be taken from the federal cabinet.
The names suggested by the interior ministry are Additional Secretary Interior Mohammad Ayub Chaudhry, Joint Secretary Interior Muhammad Ramazan and Joint Secretary Law Khurram Shahzad Mughal. The body will review the TLP’s plea after a green-signal from the cabinet.
In review plea against ban, TLP accuses govt of ‘deceit
Lawyers argue grounds mentioned for declaring their client a banned outfit ‘vague and unfounded’
ISLAMABAD:
Days after being declared a banned outfit, the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) on Sunday denied the charges levelled against it and accused the PTI-led government of “deceit” while dealing with it throughout the negotiations between the two sides.
The allegations have emerged on the heels of a resolution passed by the European Parliament seeking a review of the GSP Plus status granted to Pakistan.
The resolution expressed concerns over the increasing blasphemy accusations in Pakistan, the countrywide violent protests last month and the tabling of a TLP-dictated resolution by an MNA of the ruling PTI in the National Assembly that sought a debate on the expulsion of French ambassador over the publication of blasphemous caricatures in his country.

Pakistan government has placed over 100 clerics of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan s (TLP) on the list of terrorism and sectarianism suspects as the country continues to be rocked with violence by group’s supporters. News agency ANI reported citing Pakistan media that a top official of the Punjab Home Department confirmed that the decision was taken on the suggestion of the District Intelligence Committees. He reportedly said that more than 100 TLP clerics have been placed on the Fourth Schedule under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
“They [murderers] will have to go to courts,” he added.
The premier noted during the meeting that the nation was united on the issue of Namoos-e-Risalat.
“Even though the purpose behind the TLP s protest was right, the manner in which it chose to act was inappropriate,” he added.
The prime minister stressed the need for a global solution to the issue of blasphemy.
He also congratulated Rashid for achieving success in the talks and directed him to continue working for peace in the country.
Earlier, Rashid announced that the government had agreed “after long negotiations with the TLP” to put a resolution before parliament on whether or not it should expel the French ambassador.
