Major coronavirus metrics continue to head lower in the US, and now also globally. New cases in the US during the week ending May 8th were down 18.6% from new cases during the week ending May 1st, and are now down 83.3% from the January peak; this week also saw fewer new cases than any week since September. This week s US deaths attributed to Covid were 6.8% lower than the prior week s, and down 80.5% from the January high; US Covid deaths are now at the lowest rate since since the second week of July. ....

Scottish Election 2021: Bad weather and unseasonal snowfall causes chaos across Scotland on polling day

A fallen tree blocked the southbound carriageway of the A9 at Daviot, south of Inverness, for just over an hour Thursday morning.
Traffic Scotland removed the tree but warned that the snowy conditions were continuing to affect roads and journey times.
Police diversions were in place for some time near Tomintoul in Moray on the A939 after a tanker got stuck in the snow.
Meanwhile, drivers on the M8 and the A720 were warned to take precautions as flurries of snow were also reported in the area.
They eased off as the morning went on and no major delays were reported. ....

Coldest April in decades logged across most European nations, as our sun (once again) goes 'spotless' -- Earth Changes -- Sott.net


1981-2010 baseline, with its average minimum dropping a whopping 2.5C below the mean:

The national average in April across
Switzerland sank to 2.9C a full 1C below the 1981-2010 norm.
The last time the country suffered an April this cold was back 2001.
And across the Upper Engadin, the month actually finished up almost 2C below the baseline you have to go back to the 1980s here to find a colder April, reports meteoschweiz.ch who calls conditions in April: The Great Cold.
THE UK
Not to be left out, the UK Met Office has confirmed that the average temperature in April was the lowest seen in Britain since 1922 (solar minimum of cycle 15). It also states that there were high levels of air frost, not seen since 1960. ....

Snow has blanketed the Cairngorms this morningA blanket of snow has fallen across the Scottish Highlands as a chill sweeps the country in May.
Several inches of the white stuff was spotted in the Cairngorms in the north of the country - making for good skiing conditions on the mountain range.
The adverse conditions has even astounded locals who are used to the wintry weather throughout the year.
Gary Hodgson, who owns a walking company up in the Highlands, said that it is still winter as he shared a picture of the white stuff on Coire Cas car park in Aviemore this morning. ....
