Everybody Now
Five metro Detroit companies are making strides in their ongoing journeys toward equality, diversity, and inclusion in their workplaces, communities, and the world. The enterprises say their efforts improve recruitment and retention, keep clients and partners engaged, bolster their reputations, support the regions they serve and, ultimately, boost their bottom lines.
One Detroit-based law firm has revamped its diversity efforts twice in less than 10 years.
While Butzel Long had a committee dedicated to diversity and retention for many years, it wasn’t until 2014 that the group began to focus on recruiting diverse law students, many of whom are later hired to fill full-time positions. ....

Not many dealers would be prepared to debut a new gallery in the depths of a global crisis. But as Candice Madey would tell you, it helps if you’ve done it before.
Back in 2008, the investment bank Lehman Brothers imploded less than a week after Madey opened On Stellar Rays, the well-respected New York gallery that she helmed until 2017. Now, Madey has returned to the Lower East Side, in the midst of a very different type of worldwide stress test, to open an eponymous gallery with a new perspective. ....

The Paris Review - Blog Archive Our Contributors' Favorite Books of 2020

Our contributors, from across our quarterly print issues and our website, read as widely and wildly as they write. Here, they tell us about the books that moved them most in this strange year.
It’s a privilege, of course, to spend time thinking and writing about some of my favorite books that were published during this most absurd and solitary—most mendacious, violent, American—of years, but I’m grateful to the following artists, among others, for sustaining my spirit. I’ve come to realize how important, even more crucial than usual, short forms have been for me in a time defined by so much precarity. The idea of reading a story or a poem, simply that, has felt attainable, and the act has reliably provided me with nourishment. Danielle Evans’s second book of stories, ....
