BY: Loop Author 12:00, May 31, 2021 91 reads A US$2.8 million (K11,695,000.00) Sustaining Peace through Economic Empowerment Project in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (ARoB), was launched yesterday, Friday 28 May, 2021. The project supports the implementation of the Bougainville Peace Agreement toward economic growth and development. It was launched by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Papua New Guinea, the National Government and the Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG). Funded by the Government of Japan, the Project is designed to support the ongoing Bougainville peacebuilding process for political and economic progress. The project will support the establishment of innovation centers that create opportunities for entrepreneurs, business development, and life skills. ....

Secretary to the Department of Prime Minister and National Executive Council, Ivan Pomaleu and UNDP’s PNG Representative, Dirk Wagener signed the project; Sustaining Peace through Economic Empowerment this week in Port Moresby. The project is an extension of the work the UN has played in the implementation process of the Bougainville Peace Agreement (BPA) leading up to the referendum and will continue to the post-referendum consultations between the two governments. ....
