Japan s Nakashima Propeller Co. has taken a majority stake in the German shipbuilding supplier Becker Marine Systems GmbH.
“We have gotten to know Nakashima Propeller as a much respected and reliable partner through decades of cooperation,” said Dirk Lehmann and Henning Kuhlmann, the two managing directors at Becker Marine Systems, “and because we are expert suppliers in the area in front of and behind the propeller with well-known products such as the Becker Mewis Duct and the Becker Rudder family, the cooperation with the globally leading propeller manufacturer is, of course, a perfect fit.” ....

Nakashima Propeller acquires Becker Marine Systems

Details of the transaction have not been released but the two companies, which have been business partners since 1978 through Nakashima’s exclusive BMS distribution rights, will continue to operate under their existing identities.
“This is perfect timing for joining forces with Nakashima as they are market leader for propellers and we are market leader in high-efficiency rudders and energy saving devices,” declared Dirk Lehmann, BMS managing director, at an online press conference today.
Lehmann said that the combination of a Mewis Duct, a propeller and a rudder would enable the supply of a complete package. He said that Becker’s battery technology could also make a difference to Nakashima’s thruster designs as well as the development of propeller energy saving packages. ....

With DNV GL certification obtained in February 2021, the COBRA battery system from Becker Marine Systems can be used for a wide range of inland waterway and maritime shipping applications, and due to demand, Becker is expanding COBRA production at its Winsen (Luhe) location.
Tailor-made for maritime, the COBRA system now has full certification including IEC 62619 and IEC 62620 and can now be installed on board inland waterway and ocean-going vessels. “We have achieved the highest standard of safety since our COBRA system also meets all safety requirements down to the level of the individual cell”, said Dirk Lehmann, Managing Director of Becker Marine Systems. ....
