HELENA, Mont. (AP) â A commission tasked with drawing Montanaâs legislative districts got caught up Friday in heated hours-long debate over what criteria to use to divide the state into two U.S. House districts. The commission is made up of two Republican appointees â Dan Stusek and Jeff Essmann â and two Democratic appointees â Kendra Miller and Joe Lamson â and a nonpartisan chairperson, Maylinn Smith. The call included roughly two hours of public comment, and Regent Brianne Rogers said nearly 600 people had tuned into the meeting. ....

It also accuses Republican legislators of conspiring with Gov. Greg Gianforte to access and release the judiciary’s records, which have been used as the basis for GOP claims that the judiciary improperly used state resources to oppose legislation last session. Republican House Majority Leader Sue Vinton criticized Democrats summary of the situation Wednesday, saying that their report doesn’t include footnotes to back those claims. ....
