[email protected] SARANAC LAKE A proposal to restructure classes in the Saranac Lake Central School District would allow students in grades 7 through 12 to return to in-person instruction four days a week this spring, and would consolidate younger grades into fewer classrooms with closer seating arrangements. Earlier this month, New York issued new COVID-19 guidance for schools allowing students to sit masked at desks three feet apart, a reduction from the previous guidance of six feet. The social distancing requirements have played a role in SLCSD’s decision-making up until this point, as Superintendent Diane Fox has said it’s pushed some classes into two classrooms, taking up more space in school buildings. ....
[email protected] SARANAC LAKE Students in grades 11 and 12 at Saranac Lake High School will be learning remotely today, and possibly until the end of the week, after several students on three different sports teams tested positive for COVID-19 over the weekend. Superintendent Diane Fox said these grade levels will be remote until the end of this week but may return to regular in-person learning sooner, if contact tracing shows transmission of the virus has not happened. Currently, it is unclear how many students have tested positive or been exposed, so she said the school is going remote until that can be determined. ....
