Fast and pray for drought relief

Dianne Clark, Rugby
My husband and I moved to Rugby a few weeks ago to serve a church mission and have enjoyed a positive first impression. We come from an agricultural area in southern Idaho quite similar to this one with good crop variety and growing conditions. Although we haven’t met many farmers yet, we have been made aware of the challenges presented by the lack of moisture.
We’ve heard that many prayers, including our own, have been offered in their behalf. Hopefully this will continue. The thought has come to me that as a community we ought to have a special day of prayer and include fasting as well. Anciently the prophets and kings, and even Jesus Christ, prayed and fasted for a much-needed blessing. Not only did they pray and fast, but asked the people to join with them.

Drug overdose deaths increased significantly across the country last year, but Florida in particular saw a huge spike.
More than 93,000 people died of a drug overdose in the U.S. in 2020, according to data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That’s the highest number of overdose deaths the country has ever recorded, and reflects a 29.4% increase from 2019.
Florida ranks second in the nation for overdose deaths, behind only California. Last year, 7,579 people died from a drug overdose, an increase of 37% from 2019.
“The pandemic has affected the whole country, and the opioid crisis has tracked right along with that,” said Dianne Clarke, CEO of Operation PAR, a substance use treatment program based in Pinellas County.
