Coronavirus in Fermanagh: Details confirmed on reopening of outdoor leisure facilities


In line with the recent announcement by the Northern Ireland Executive of a provisional return to grassroots football from April 12, 2021, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has confirmed that the booking of outdoor pitches at all Council facilities will recommence from that date. This in line with guidance issued by the Executive and the sports governing body.
Speaking about the reopening of outdoor pitches, the Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Diana Armstrong, said: “The Covid-19 pandemic has presented us with unprecedented challenges over the past year, particularly in the safe operation of our leisure facilities with prevailing guidelines. As we move forward, the importance of looking after our physical and mental health and wellbeing cannot be overstated and the further easing of restrictions has enabled the Council to progress to reopening some of its outdoor sports facilities, albeit with restrictions on who can use them, thereby afford ....

Enniskillen park to close for four months to allow for refurbishments


FORTHILL Park in Enniskillen is to close for four months to allow for a £210,000 investment programme to refurbish the popular, historic park.
This new investment is funded by the Landfill Communities Fund and Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, with works to include significant conservation of Cole’s Monument, one of the most prominent landmarks of Enniskillen’s skyline.
Conservation, restoration and repairs will be made to the stonework and viewing platform, and the statue, sitting atop a 30-metre Doric column, will be cleaned.
Pathways and park furniture will be upgraded, which will see reclaimed street furniture and granite kerbstones from the ongoing Enniskillen Public Realm scheme installed in the park as part of the Council’s commitment to environmental sustainability. ....

Dozens of older citizens 'virtually' attend a conference


DOZENS of older people from across the Fermanagh and Omagh district attended the annual ‘Age Friendly’ conference last Wednesday, March 24, which was held virtually for the first time due to Covid-19 restrictions currently in place.
The conference, organised by the Council in conjunction with South West Age Partnership, with funding from the Public Health Agency, provided the more than 60 people in virtual attendance with the opportunity to hear from a number of speakers on issues relating five steps to wellbeing – keeping well at home.
Welcoming delegates, the Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Diana Armstrong, said: “The Council is committed to establishing a district in which our older people can live active and engaged lives, making a valuable contribution to their communities. ....

FERMANAGH and Omagh District Council chairwoman, Diana Armstrong, has issued an appeal to residents to continue to exercise caution to help curb the spread of coronavirus over the Easter period.
Speaking during the Easter Holiday weekend, she said, “As Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, I would like to take the opportunity to wish you all a Happy and Safe Easter.
“As we mark our second Easter season in a period of restrictions, I would encourage everyone to continue to adhere to the Covid-19 restrictions currently in place to help curb the spread of Covid-19 and help continue to protect our NHS. We have been Stronger Together throughout this pandemic, however, the increase in cases in recent days in the Fermanagh and Omagh District has demonstrated that we are not there yet and we cannot become complacent. ....
