By Guy Busby FAIRHOPE – The first ninth-grade academies intended to take growth pressure off crowded campuses and provide freshmen with an easier transition to high school are under construction on the Eastern Shore. The first academy is expected to be completed at Fairhope High School in June, Eddie Tyler, Baldwin County superintendent of education, said. Another academy building is under construction at Daphne High School. At a groundbreaking for the Daphne facility, Tyler said the facilities are the first of a series of academies planned for schools across Baldwin County. “This school is growing by leaps and bounds,” Tyler said. “We have another stand-alone building for ninth-grade academy. Sometime after the Fourth of July, we will be doing a ribbon cutting on the Fairhope ninth-grade academy that’s a stand-alone building. Submitted With the beginning of every new semester, AFJROTC Unit AL-935 corps welcomes a new corps commander to lead us. This person is chosen based on their leadership skills and their dedication to the program. For the spring semester of 2021, Senior Spanish Fort Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Mackenzie Bryant was selected due to her love and devotion to the Corps. Her Vice-Commander this semester will be Daphne Senior Cadet Major Davie Allen. Cadet Bryant has been a member of the Corps for all four years of her high school career. She is exceptionally bright and studious student. She has the rare ability to balance a great deal of responsibilities from work to home to school. She maintains her grades and the cadets under her leadership very well. Since her time in the Corps, she has led the Drill Team, been the Commander of our Cadet Squadron, and supported the idea of creating a new class this year, Leadership and Management of the Cadet Corps.
