From staff reports MIDDLEBURG– John W. Stahl, 55, of Middleburg, was sentenced to probation and ordered to pay over $35,000 following his conviction for animal cruelty and related offenses Wednesday in Snyder County court. On four counts of animal cruelty and twenty-six counts of animal neglect, visiting Senior Judge Dudley Anderson on imposed the sentence of four years’ probation, a $1400 fine, 140 hours of community service, and approximately $33,800 in restitution. In addition, the sentencing order prohibits Stahl from owning or possessing any animals, and he must divest of any livestock he currently owns or possesses by March 1st. Snyder County District Attorney Michael Piecuch said, “There are some basic expectations for the care of animals that Stahl understood and willingly ignored. Unfortunately, not all the animals seized from Stahl survived, but several did thanks to the assistance and dedication of Ashburn’s Animals, Haven to Home, and the Sunbury ....

TUNKHANNOCK â Phillip Donald Walters, found guilty by a jury in October of murdering his girlfriend and dumping her body in the river, will spend the rest of his life in prison. Senior Judge Dudley Anderson handed down the life sentence Thursday after listening virtually on Zoom to family members of the victim and defendant. Walters, 33, of Mill City, was convicted of killing Haley Lorenzen in his home nearly two years ago and dumping her body in the Susquehanna River at Falls. He is not eligible for parole. âYouâre not an animal,â Lorenzenâs mother, Deanna Hills, said on Zoom to Walters before the judgeâs decision. âAnimals donât kill.
