Two plead guilty to breaching Covid rules at parties


A TWENTY eight year old man who admitted attending a party in breach of Covid-19 restrictions last November is expected to be fined when he is sentenced later this year.
Aidan McAlister, of Grodians, Lerwick, refused to pay a fixed penalty notice when police attended a party at the town’s Mounthooly Street on 22 November last year.

Officers had attended the party at a flat within Chapel House in the early hours of the morning to find 17 people present – far exceeding the number permitted under the rules at that time.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said police were “met with a fair degree of hostility” and when they attempted to educate those present about Covid-19 rules they were “met with arguments”. ....

A THIRTY four year old woman appeared from custody at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Monday to admit breaching bail conditions.
Kimberley Obern, of the town’s Pitt Lane, pleaded guilty to entering a property in Scalloway and contacting a man on 19 May despite being ordered not to do when bailed a week earlier in court.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said all parties have been spoken to by police and reminded of their obligations when it comes to bail conditions.
Sheriff Ian Cruickshank said it was “very disappointing” to see special bail conditions breached after one week. ....

WALKING over the road at the end of the Sumburgh Airport runway when pedestrians were not supposed to has landed a man a £400 fine.
When George New, of Scatness, crossed the road it forced a helicopter to abort its taxi manoeuvre, delaying it by a few minutes.

A MAN from Tingwall has been warned that he could face a prison sentence after admitting being concerned in the supply of cocaine.
Darren Boxwell appeared at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Wednesday to admit being concerned in the supply of the class A drug between 1 December 2018 and 12 July 2019.
However, his defence agent Gregor Kelly said the 33-year-old was stuck in a “hamster wheel” at the bidding of someone “higher up in the chain”.

'Terrorising' the people of Lerwick leads to eight month prison sentence

A MAN who “terrorised the good citizens of Lerwick” on a Thursday afternoon has been sent to jail for eight months.
Appearing at Lerwick Sheriff Court from custody via video link, Grant Huntington admitted a string of offences committed in the town on 25 February.
Defence agent Gregor Kelly said his client, of Lerwick’s Union St, had mixed valium with alcohol with “disastrous consequences” and had no recollection of any of the incidents.
