A MAN is pleading with the public to help him reunite with his family members who are believed to be in Bolton. Chris Parnell, from Winsford, Cheshire, discovered last year that he had an older sister while attending his dad’s funeral after he died of throat cancer. Now, he is attempting to reunite with the countless other family members that he did not get to meet during his childhood due to a breakdown in family relations. AN update on the coronavirus vaccination programme in Bolton has revealed more than 131,000 people in the borough have received their first dose. A meeting of health leaders heard that 22,086 of those people had been given their second jab as of Wednesday, April 7. Figures reported to the board of the borough’s clinical commissioning group showed the proportions of the eligible cohorts who had taken up the offer of a vaccination. Of those aged 75 and over, 95.1 per cent have been vaccinated. Of those aged 70 to 74 the figure is 93.8 per cent and 91.4 per cent of. 65 to 69-year-olds have had an injection. Nearly 89 per cent of 60 to 64-year-olds and 85.5 per cent of the 55 to 59 age group have taken up the offer while the figure s 80,6 per cent of those aged 50 to 54. ....

THERE was a time when wires string across the road and rails set into the streets were a common sight around Bolton. Taken in 1946, this photograph shows Tonge Moor Road just past the junction with Crompton Way.The cables and tracks were for the trams which at this point were becoming a rarity around the town. It would be less than year after this picture was taken that Bolton’s last tram would run along the Tonge Moor route in 1946. Can you spot the wartime legacy in the photo? Look at the pavement on the left with its white edging strip. These were painted on to pavements all across the town when the blackout was enforced so that pedestrians and drivers could see where the roads stopped and the pavements began. ....
