CHARLESTON Jackson County was placed under a state of emergency by Gov. Jim Justice, making the total 14 out of the 55 counties now under a state of emergency on Thursday.
The state of emergency is due to the winter storm that has caused power outages and road blockages just in the past week due to the heavy snow and ice.
Jackson and Mason counties joined Cabell, Lincoln, Putnam, Wayne, Ohio, Marshall, Wetzel, Marion, Monongalia, Harrison, Taylor and Tucker Counties under the state of emergency.
Justice has directed the West Virginia Emergency Management Division to implement the West Virginia Emergency Operations Plan as it relates to winter storm response and mobilize appropriate personnel and resources to respond to the emergency.
