With wind chill temperatures reaching double-digits below zero degrees in Moberly the past several days and the weather forecast shows its repeat through at least the end of this week, the city council at its Tuesday business meeting voted 3-2 against an idea for the Municipal Auditorium basement be used as a temporary warming center for the public.
During an open discussion session, councilman Austin Kyser brought up the subject saying there are some city governments in the state that is using some of its facilities to serve as warming centers under certain weather conditions. He added that those cities worked with community civic service organizations in scheduling volunteers to help provide these services, and believes Moberly is in need of an overnight warming center location.
