Describing his best friend as a terrific bloke , LA-based television producer Mr Hill said he received the shock of his life when he heard of Parkinson s sudden passing on Monday night at his home in Sydney s northern beaches, at the age of 74.
Mr Hill, an expat Aussie famous for helping Sir Kerry Packer revolutionise the game of cricket with broadcast innovations in 1977 and his work producing Academy Awards, said they both worked as copy boys and cadets on The Daily Telegraph in the early 1960s.

Doug Parkinson rarely went unnoticed – for his voice, his physique, his very presence. From the moment he appeared as a participant in Australian popular music in 1966 he commanded attention. Decades later he became a true household name – one of the great distinctive Australian voices. ....

Australian musician Doug Parkinson has died aged 74 .
The soul, rock and pop singer’s career spanned more than five decades and his solo career was launched in the mid-70s after he played with several bands.
He was honoured in News Corp Australia’s top 50 Australian singers in January and was set to perform in South Australia on Thursday.
Musician Marcia Hines paid tribute to Mr Parkinson on social media, saying “not only will the Australian music industry be sad to hear of your passing my friend, the world will have far less melody without you here to sing for us any longer”. ....
