UC Students Achieve Third Consecutive Year of Excellence with Pioneer Radio


WPNR 90.7 Pioneer Radio, the official student-run radio
at Utica College, has received an excellence award from the New York State Broadcasters Association for the third consecutive year.
The award received this year was for Outstanding Public Service Announcement (PSA) and was produced by Mark Mason Jr. ’24, a communications and media major who held the title of production manager for the radio station this past year. Mason’s PSA highlighted Utica College’s emergency call boxes that are located throughout campus.
Previously, WPNR has won the Serving New York award (2019), and two Excellence in Broadcasting Awards for outstanding promotional announcement, and outstanding use of digital platforms (2020). ....

2021 Robinson-Lineberger winners announced


The winners for the 37
th annual Robinson-Lineberger Literary Competition were recently announced at an awards ceremony held at the Lincoln Cultural Center. This competition is sponsored by the Trustees of the Flo Robinson Estate and the Robert Lineberger Estate to memorialize Flo Robinson’s lifelong interest in poetry and prose and to encourage local writers in the pursuit of excellence in their craft.
The 2021 Robinson Lineberger Literary Winners are as follows:

1st Place went to Evangeline Kunkle, a student at Pumpkin Center Intermediate School for “The Promise”
2nd Place went to Jamie Carpenter, a student at Rock Springs Elementary for “I was Born on March First” ....
