RAPID CITY, S.D. – Firefighters on Wednesday had another day of good progress battling the Schroeder Fire just to the west of Rapid City.
They conducted several successful burnout operations, which improved fire lines by removing unburned fuel between the line and the main body of the fire.
Those operations slightly increased the fire’s acreage to 2,195 acres. Containment remains at 47%.
A glow from these recently burned areas was visible from communities near the fire overnight. ....

Re-zone at Lennox Industrial Park approved; East Dakota Beef has opted to pursue other locations
Re-zoning was approved to allow heavy industrial at 27961 South Dakota Highway 17, Lennox.
The change in zoning at the land in Lennox Industrial Park south of Town was approved at the Planning and Zoning meeting on Jan. 28, following the public hearing.
The re-zoned land is owned by the Gene Kuper family. On the Special Permit application, it states the proposed work as, “East Dakota Beef Processing proposes an 80 ft. x 220 ft. processing plant to be located on a ten acre plat…50-150 maximum daily cattle processing capacity to be accomplished in house. No outside holding pens required. Cattle to be trucked in as required. Processed beef product sold commercially. Anticipate up to approximately 55 employees.” ....

City of Lennox to consider re-zoning at Industrial Park
The City of Lennox will hold a public hearing on January 28, 2021 regarding the re-zoning of 27961 South Dakota Highway 17.
The hearing begins at 7 p.m. on January 28, 2021 at Lennox City Hall (107 South Main). The meetings are also available on the City’s YouTube channel.
As reported in the Dec. 3, 2020 issue of The Lennox Independent, the re-zone is for the potential food manufacturer that is looking to come to Lennox. City Administrator Nathan Vander Plaats confirmed that the food manufacturer would slaughter 40-50 head of cattle a day, with a maximum of 100-125. ....

Ian Grutchfield is venue director for Hadleigh Old School, Suffolk’s new arts and events venue, which opened during the pandemic and has ambitious plans to stage a variety of cultural events. As a TV executive, Ian relaunched Doctor Who in 2005, with Christopher Eccleston as the ninth doctor and oversaw consumer marketing and international merchandising through to the 12th Time Lord Peter Capaldi. He also released a UK number one single for the Teletubbies (employing Simon Cowell) and secured an Oscar for Wallace and Gromit. He lives in Hadleigh with his husband, Matthew, and rescue dogs, Connie and Elvira. ....
