Fearful and often with restricted access to their families, many were reliant on carers as their only connection to the world. “It has almost been like house arrest,” says Dr Chris Moss who runs Westmorland Homecare, based in Kendal, alongside Dr Josh Macaulay. “You have had elderly people who for a year have been more isolated because they have not been able to see their family and friends as easily. “That can start to lead to communication and anxiety issues and if a person has dementia or mobility issues it can make the situation even worse.” ....
A controversial planning application to build a convenience store in a pub car park has attracted more than 650 objections since it was resubmitted earlier this year. The submission from Punch Partnerships would see a Co-op shop built in Appleby Road on the car park of the Duke of Cumberland. There has been extensive opposition to the scheme from members of the public, with more than 650 objections submitted online to South Lakeland District Council. One resident of Shap Road said: I object to this application on the grounds of pedestrian safety due to the increased number of vehicles driving across a pavement to access and exit the site. ....
A BREWERY has confirmed it is planning on resubmitting an application to build on the car park of a Kendal pub. Last year Punch Partnership Limited submitted a planning application to South Lakeland District Council to build a Co-op on the car park of the Duke of Cumberland on Appleby Road. The application caused huge anger in the community, resulting in over 400 residents registering their objections to the plans and the application subsequently being withdrawn. Town councillors were also concerned by the proposals and said the development would add traffic congestion to the area and would be ‘detrimental’ to local businesses. ....
