Well, that was interesting! A year removed from a draft class that was probably tops in the league in terms of reeling in consensus value, this time around the Cowboys.zagged. There may not be a Cowboy fan out there who needs to be told that the 2021 picks involved multiple by-consensus reaches to various degrees, including one major objective reach that had to pull a muscle or leave behind some back pain.
Does this mean it s a bad class? By one measure, and to be frank - yes, it was bad. By value, the Cowboys left some draft capital on the table, missing opportunities to pick guys closer to their expected range in order to import more overall talent or move down and bank something in the way of future picks. But keep in mind that the per-capital value of a class is only a portion, and a smaller portion at that, of how the class ultimately stacks out. How well it help ....

How did the Cowboys do in the 2021 NFL Draft?
Defense. Defense. Defense.
The overwhelming needs for the Cowboys heading into the 2021 NFL Draft were on defense after the team allowed a franchise-record 473 points and 6,183 yards last season.
The major question however, was whether or not they would address them.
At the end of the three days, eight of Dallas’ 11 selections in the draft were on the defensive side of the ball. So it is safe to say that the Cowboys addressed their major weaknesses. There was a fear that Dallas would pull another CeeDee Lamb-type pick in the first round and grab Jaylen Waddle or DeVonta Smith if both or either was still on the board at No. 10. But it became clear that their priority was defense. The Panthers selected cornerback Jaycee Horn and then the Broncos traded up to take the other top cornerback in the draft, Patrick Surtain II with the No. 9 overall pick ....

The Denver Broncos should have drafted an offensive tackle in 2021

The Broncos went into the draft with two obvious needs. Just about every NFL analyst outside of Colorado knew quarterback made sense. There was no way George Paton would be content with a third year quarterback who finished 2020 last in every measure that matters and a veteran who’s former team willingly accepted to pay $7 million for him to play in Denver.
Less glaring but more pertinent was the 317 lb. question mark set to start at right tackle. I want to be clear that I have no problem with a man prioritizing his family’s health in the middle of a pandemic, as it is truly a life-or-death kind of decision. ....

We heard rumblings about 24 hours before the first round that the Cardinals were likely to take Collins, though he was someone expected to go in the mid-to-late 20’s. Could they have traded back and landed him? Maybe. But his versatility combined with that of Isaiah Simmons and Budda Baker make this a tough defense to play against. Moore makes so much sense in the second round, as we still don’t know if Larry Fitzgerald will return. No matter what, he’s a perfect fit to play the slot in their offense. I liked Gowan better than Wilson, so getting him two rounds later saved their score a bit, as Wilson seemed like a bit of a reach. If there’s one thing I would’ve liked to see them do, it was to add a nose tackle seeing as many of them fell much further than expected. ....
