BOWLING GREEN Ky.-As this current semester at Western Kentucky University wraps up, university officials say students will not be required to get the vaccine to return to campus in the fall.
Even though vaccinations aren’t and never were required at WKU, officials like director of media relations Bob Skipper still encourage students to get the vaccine if they haven’t already.
Skipper said the reasoning for not requiring the vaccine is that it would be better to encourage rather than require vaccinations since they are authorized for emergency use. ....

Legacy Christian Academy names Rev. Jerry Gifford as new principal

BOWLING GREEN Ky.– Legacy Christian Academy of Bowling Green announced Rev. Jerry Gifford as its new principal.
A Bowling Green native, Gifford has served as pastor of five Kentucky churches, currently as Senior Pastor of LifePoint Church in Franklin. He has served as a member of multiple area boards, including Habitat for Humanity of Simpson County and Children’s First, Inc., of Frankfort, an orphanage in Haiti, and as part of the Haitian Baptist Convention, as well as several Kentucky Baptist Convention denominational roles, notably as chair of the church revitalization team.
In the Spring of 2020, Gifford led the joint effort to consolidate Anchored Christian School and Bowling Green Christian Academy into Legacy Christian Academy of Bowling Green. Legacy officially launched in the Summer of 2020 and meets on the campus of sponsoring church Glendale at Cave Mill, currently enrolling nearly 220 students from across the region. ....

Arts of Southern Kentucky announces $75,000 gifts made to the organization

BOWLING GREEN Ky.-After the Arts of Southern Kentucky received a huge financial boost, another recently came to the organization.
Two gifts combining to equal $75,000 were made by Sherry and Jeff Reed, along with an anonymous donor. Jeff Reed is the president and CEO of the Arts of Southern Kentucky.
The $50,000 coming from the Reed’s gift will be split evenly between operating expenses and the establishment of the Sherry and Jeff Reed endowment.
This gift comes after the announcement of a one-million-dollar donation from Rita and Jim Scott. Gary Ransdell with the Arts of Southern Kentucky says it’s a sign of great things to come. ....

BOWLING GREEN Ky.-Kentucky Covid-19 vaccinations continue, as the bluegrass state prepares to hit the 1 million milestone. On Sunday, vaccinations were given at The Medical Center at Bowling Green, with the focus being on the Burmese parishioners in attendance. One of them being 37-year-old Andrew Mung, who was thrilled to get vaccinated.
“I’m very excited to get it. I never expected to get it this soon because I feel like we’re the minority here,” Mung said.
Holy Spirit Catholic Church provided transportation to the vaccination area.  Before the vaccinations got underway, a translator attended to answer questions and ease any concerns about what they would be receiving. Mung did not have any apprehensions, saying it’s all worth it to beat this virus. ....
