SALT LAKE CITY Salt Lake police have arrested a man who they say followed a woman to her apartment complex and assaulted her near a stairwell. Joshua Funk, 31, is accused of illegally entering the complex, pushing a woman down, slapping her and telling her that he was going to create pornography with her, according to a police affidavit. He then allegedly exposed himself to the woman and grabbed her. The incident happened Sunday near 500 East and 400 South, according to police. Funk was arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of forcible sexual abuse, kidnapping, burglary and lewdness. Police say he was also wanted for a recent shoplifting incident at a grocery story in the same area during which a rock was thrown at employees. Tuesday afternoon, he was charged in 3rd District Court with robbery, a second-degree felony, in connection with the shoplifting incident. ....

A Mount Holly man accused of shooting and killing a police officer last week will remain in jail without bond. Joshua Funk, 24, made his first public appearance Friday morning since the shooting death of Mount Holly Police Officer Tyler Herndon last week. Investigators believe Funk shot and wounded Herndon with a handgun during an early morning shooting on Dec. 11. Herndon died at the hospital later that morning. A Gaston County grand jury indicted Funk on first-degree murder Monday morning. Mount Holly Police Chief Don Roper, Deputy Chief Brian Reagan and seven other Mount Holly Police officers walked into the courthouse together and sat quietly in the courtroom pews ahead of Funk’s arraignment Friday morning. ....
