Pumas captain Pablo Matera was open to playing for Waratahs before Crusaders move

Cheika is intimately involved with Argentina after working as a Pumas’ assistant coach under his close friend Mario Ledesma last year. Ledesma first revealed in 2019 that Matera is a massive fan of Sydney and is keen to play for NSW. Pumas captain Pablo Matera had been keen to move to Sydney and play for the Waratahs before joining the Crusaders. “He loves being here, he loves surfing, he would love to play over here for the Waratahs,” Ledesma said. Matera left the Jaguares to play for Stade Francais in 2019 but wanted to play in Super Rugby again in 2022 for a New Zealand or Australian team.

A Set the default text size A Set large text size Replay A Set the default text size A Set large text size Time for a review of my previous Tahs’ musings and hopes for the season. Despite my regular Dalai Lama mantras and Anthony Robbins’ reading, it was an excruciating year. Without doubt I am now more annoyed with the Board and management than I was at the beginning of the season. That the coach got punted was not surprising, it is the easy solution in professional sport.

Hope for the weeping Waratahs fan A Set the default text size A Set large text size Replay A Set the default text size A Set large text size Waratahs fans left Bankwest Stadium last week in a stream of downcast faces. The Waratahs had fallen to their third consecutive defeat against last year’s worst team, the Western Force. It was dispiriting to be sure but all is not lost. Here are five good reasons why Waratahs fans should keep their collective chins up. 1. Goal kicking Will Harrison is a world-class goal kicker. In Super Rugby AU 2020, he kicked 37 from 40 attempts (92.5 per cent). He hasn’t missed one in 2021.
