Thompson apologizes, faces new questions about domestic abuse

Minnesota Representative John Thompson apologized Thursday to the St. Paul Police sergeant he accused of racial profiling during a traffic stop on July 4 in downtown St. Paul. The apology comes two weeks after St. Paul Police Chief Todd Axtell asked Thompson to apologize, saying he reviewed body camera video that showed a stop performed by the books.
John Thompson did show up unannounced at our Western District offices.so he could apologize to the sergeant who pulled him over on July 4th, St. Paul Police spokesman Steve Linders told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS.
The apology comes on the same day there s new scrutiny of allegations of domestic abuse involving Thompson. 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS obtained evidence photos from a 2004 case at an Eagan apartment complex. ....

MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - After being found guilty of a misdemeanor charge in a 2019 incident on Wednesday, Representative John Thompson says he wants to take time to consider his future in the Minnesota House.
Thompson spoke outside the Hennepin County Courthouse following the conviction on the charge of obstruction a legal process and the calls for him to resign. The court case was a small part of what s been a troubling month for Thompson s political career.

MINNEAPOLIS After a jury found him guilty on Wednesday of misdemeanor obstruction, DFL State Representative John Thompson walked through the revolving doors of the Hennepin County Government Center and addressed the media on-camera for the first time in about two weeks.
I m not a criminal. I ve never been a criminal, Thompson told the press corps. Sometimes, fighting for justice has legal ramifications, and here we go.
But Thompson s conviction in the 2019 obstruction case involving police at North Memorial Hospital - which carries a small fine and probation - is not the primary reason why leaders of both parties have demanded his resignation from public office.
