Last year for Fairfield County Giving Day, generous donors gave Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center the funds to restore and reframe two pairs of portraits in the museum’s collection.
This year, in advance of Fairfield County Giving Day, KTM&HC curators Catherine Prescott and Erika Askin will unveil the restored and reframed portraits during a Curators’ Corner program, Reuniting (and Restoring) a Family, on Tuesday, February 23 at 6:30 p.m.
The portraits are of Anna and Abijah Resseguie and Betsy and Thaddeus Keeler. During the Zoom program, Prescott and Askin will discuss the subjects of the portraits as well as the history of the paintings, including the recently acquired portrait of Betsy Perry Keeler. Board member Joel Third will relate the story of how the Betsy Perry Keeler portrait found its way ....

Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center Virtual Talks to Explore the Role of Currier & Ives in 19th Century American Mass Media with Collector Joel Third

Two of longtime Ridgefield resident Joel Third’s passions have been collecting Currier & Ives prints and volunteering at Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center. In January and February, he’ll bring those passions together for two virtual talks.
In January, Third will present 19th Century American Mass Media, an exploration of the role Currier & Ives had as lithograph publishers in the late 1800s. In February, Third’s program will be View of Women in the 19th Century. In this program, Third will explore the role of women in society, their fight for suffrage, and their role in the temperance movement as seen through the work of Currier & Ives. KTM&HC is hosting both programs on Zoom. ....

January at Keeler Tavern: Guided Outdoor Hike, Currier & Ives, and Digital Learning

Starting this month, Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center is offering docent-led outdoor tours of its historic site. Tours are scheduled for Wednesdays at 11 a.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 1 and 2 p.m., weather permitting.
Initially, KTM&HC will offer two tours, Gilberts at the Cannon Ball House and A Short Walk Through Three Centuries. Each tour will last about 45 minutes. Online registration is required. These tours are appropriate for all age groups.
Be sure to dress appropriately and to wear comfortable shoes suitable for covering uneven terrain. In inclement weather, tours will be canceled two hours prior to start time. Please check the website for status updates. ....
