A Marshville man, that is connected to two Charlotte-area murders from April 2021, is now facing charges in Union County for the murder of a 33-year-old man. Union County deputies identified 34-year-old Joel Brewer, who is in the Mecklenburg County jail, for the murder of Joshua Allen, who was found dead in a wooded area near Wingate in Feb. 2021. Allen was last seen alive in January 2021 and a missing person report was filed with the Marshville Police soon after. After Allen was found, Union County detectives and SBI agents pursued the case as a murder investigation after the Medical Examiner determined he died from multiple gunshot wounds. ....

Trans woman Iris Santos murdered in Houston May 4, 2021 | Iris Santos Houston police say they are continuing their investigation into the April 23 murder of transgender woman Iris Santos, 22. According to reports, Santos was sitting at a picnic table outside of a Chick-fil-A restaurant in the 8600 block of Westheimer Road at about 9:30 p.m. when an unknown suspect approached and opened fire, striking several times. The restaurant manager called emergency services; Santos was transported to a local hospital where she was declared dead. Dontarius Long and Joel Brewer, were each charged with two counts of murder and two counts of weapons possession, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and conspiracy to commit a robbery with a dangerous weapon. Charlotte Police Lt. Bryan Crum said Friday (April 16) their investigation so far led them to believe all involved in the women’s deaths had been caught. The FBI is also reportedly working with the department to determine if hate crime charges can be brought against the men. “I can tell you that our investigation has advanced to the point that I feel confident in telling you there is no one else at large that was a part of this,” Crum said. He added later, “If hate crime charges are appropriate, we will absolutely pursue those.” ....
