Tobin takes 11th in 3000m final as Lavin makes semi-final exit

Clonmel AC’s Sean Tobin has come 11th in the 3000m final at the European Indoor Athletics Championships in Poland this afternoon.
Tobin’s time 7:58.11 saw him come home 3.63 seconds behind Germany’s Marcel Fehr, while Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen, Belgium’s Isaac Kimeli and Spain’s Adel Mechaal claimed the medals.
Earlier today, Sarah Lavin finished outside the qualifying positions in the 60m hurdle event, crossing the line in fourth.

Lavin ran just 0.1 second off her personal best which she set on Saturday, clocking 8.07. ....

Tobin finshed 11th in the 3000-metre final
Sean Tobin came home 11th in the final of the 3000 metres at the European Indoor Athletics Championships in Torun, Poland this afternoon.
The Clonmel athlete was in the leading pack early on, but an injection of pace from eventual winner Jakob Ingebrigtsen split the field with Tobin ending up in the chasing group.
He ran a time of 7:58:11, which was over 10 seconds slower than his semi-final run, while the Norwegian added 3000 metre gold to his earlier 1500 metre first place.

Exciting 24-strong Irish squad set for European Indoors

Ireland s largest ever team for a major indoor championship will travel to Poland next week for the European Indoors, with 2019 medallists Mark English and Ciara Mageean carrying some of the best hopes of a medal among the 24-strong squad.
English is currently ranked seventh in Europe over 800 metres but he will bring vast experience to the task of potentially racing three-hard races in three days.
It s a refined skill to reach a six-man final in such a condensed schedule but his European Indoor medals from 2015 and 2019 are proof of his expertise in gauging how to put himself in position to challenge for a position on the rostrum. ....
