450 seniors say goodbye to high school careers in Belton | Copperas Cove Herald

BELTON — The crowd of parents, friends and loved ones roared on May 28 as the Copperas Cove High School band began to play the traditional graduation tune “Pomp and Circumstance.” The crowd’s roars drowned out the periodic loud rumbles of thunder that shook through the Bell County Expo Center in Belton. In total, 450 seniors filed into their seats on the floor in preparation for walking across the stage. Several of the Class of 2021’s seniors offered their thoughts on the excitement about having an in-person graduation. “This year, at first, it was kind of disappointing with football season having games canceled left and right, especially because I’m a cheerleader and that’s one of my happiest moments of the year,” said Isabella Dickson. “But I’m actually very excited we got to have a normal prom, a normal graduation. I’m really happy.”

Cove school board approves 2021-2022 calendar Feb 9

Among the items taken up by the Copperas Cove School Board of Trustees at its monthly meeting Feb. 9 was the academic calendar for the 2021-2022 school year. The first day of class will be Aug. 18, and the last day of class will be May 26. Spring Break will be March 14-18, 2022. Christmas break will go from Dec. 20 through Jan. 3, 2022. Built into the schedule are six student holidays. Superintendent Joe Burns said the calendar went through numerous revisions after it was presented to a committee that worked with teachers and other district staff. “Out of the drafts that were presented, they chose the draft that we’ve provided to you,” Burns said. “And that draft is a 187-day work calendar for staff, 170 days for students.”
