BELTON â The crowd of parents, friends and loved ones roared on May 28 as the Copperas Cove High School band began to play the traditional graduation tune âPomp and Circumstance.â
The crowdâs roars drowned out the periodic loud rumbles of thunder that shook through the Bell County Expo Center in Belton.
In total, 450 seniors filed into their seats on the floor in preparation for walking across the stage.
Several of the Class of 2021âs seniors offered their thoughts on the excitement about having an in-person graduation.
âThis year, at first, it was kind of disappointing with football season having games canceled left and right, especially because Iâm a cheerleader and thatâs one of my happiest moments of the year,â said Isabella Dickson. âBut Iâm actually very excited we got to have a normal prom, a normal graduation. Iâm really happy.â

Mississauga, ON, Feb. 26, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) EllisDon s Alliance of Black Employee Experience and Leadership (ABEEL) held the inaugural virtual ‘Shaping The Future Sponsorship Program’ event live on Thursday, February 25 to announce the winners behind the scholarship program.
The program enables Canadian high school students to share their vision for a community that is more inclusive of the Black experience and without racism. Students were asked to apply by illustrating what a world without anti-Black racism looks like through any medium of their creative choosing including video, drawings, poems, essays, visual arts, and music.
Among the items taken up by the Copperas Cove School Board of Trustees at its monthly meeting Feb. 9 was the academic calendar for the 2021-2022 school year.
The first day of class will be Aug. 18, and the last day of class will be May 26.
Spring Break will be March 14-18, 2022.
Christmas break will go from Dec. 20 through Jan. 3, 2022.
Built into the schedule are six student holidays.
Superintendent Joe Burns said the calendar went through numerous revisions after it was presented to a committee that worked with teachers and other district staff.
âOut of the drafts that were presented, they chose the draft that weâve provided to you,â Burns said. âAnd that draft is a 187-day work calendar for staff, 170 days for students.â
