Dornoch’s plans to turn a derelict brownfield site into a car park are powering ahead with the £400,000 project now out to public tender.
The former abattoir site at Dornoch South is to have 38 car spaces, four dedicated motorhome spaces, five flexible coach/motorhome spaces, eight motorcycle spaces and 10 bicycle stances. ....

Joan Potts
Joan Potts, who has died aged 102, was an early volunteer for the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF) in the Second World War; she served in a Fighter Command operations room during the Battle of Britain, before being commissioned and training others in fighter control.
Born Winifred Joan Bishop on November 7 1918 in Winchester, she attended Palmers Green High School. In June 1940 she enlisted in the WAAF as a special duties clerk, the trade name used for those serving in a Fighter Command control room and a highly classified role at the time. ....

A photogenic dog has helped fetch its owner top prize in a competition showcasing all Dornoch has to offer.
Julie Everitt from Inverness beat more than 200 other entrants from across the UK to win the contest, organised by Visit Dornoch and VisitScotland, with an image of her pet dog Fern on Dornoch beach.
Joan Bishop, chairman of Visit Dornoch, said: “Everyone who visits Dornoch is awestruck by our incredible sandy beaches and it’s a really popular destination for those travelling with their dogs. ....
