Greystones District Engineer Ruarí O Hanlon joked last week that elected members will probably want to avoid calling the new marina park Parky McParkface Cllr Jodie Neary proposed at the December meeting of Greystones Municipal District that the new park at Greystones marina be named. The meeting took place in Greystones on Tuesday, December 15. Cllr Neary said that schools in the area should be involved in the naming process. Documentation on the Part 8 file currently refers to the park as the decidedly un-poetic Greystones Coastal Linear Park . Other variations and other names such as Darcy s field and Marina Park have been used over the years. ....
The campaign for Greystones Dog Park has ended its association with the allocated site at the marina, chairperson Bernadette Stokes told members of Greystones Municipal District last Tuesday night (15th). She and committee member Maria Sweeney made a presentation to the members, during which they produced a heavy bag of stones collected that morning from the site. District manager Michael Nicholson said that there are plans for dog parks in each district. We had stopped looking for a location in the Greystones district because this had been secured, he said. Mr Nicholson said that he will continue looking for a suitable site and work with Ms Stokes and the campaign. ....
A member of Greystones Municipal District left last Tuesday evening s (15th) meeting in protest after a motion was passed to build 41 social housing units on lands beside Burnaby Lawns. Cllr Tom Fortune, who voted against the motion along with Cllr Mags Crean, said it was quite disgusting , and told the Cathaoirleach, Derek Mitchell, he hadn t a bull s notion . Around 50 residents of Burnaby Lawns were outside the council building opposing the development. The vote to accept or refuse the Part 8 proposal had been adjourned from the previous month s meeting for members to send queries to housing director Joe Lane. Cllr Gerry Walsh spoke about the chronic need for social housing in the Greystones area, with families residing in totally unsuitable and in many cases overcrowded conditions. ....
