Reviving a Lost Art: Gallery Displays Students’ Traditional Paintings
Graduates of the Laguna College of Art and Design (LCAD) presented their final culminating artworks during a July 1 exhibition.
LCAD is one of the few art schools in the country that transmits the type of classical painting that great artists of yesteryear knew: the fundamental skills of traditional realism art. Other art schools often heavily focus on contemporary and abstract art.
“A lot of places really discourage a time-honored, traditional approach … it’s hard to get that kind of training and those sorts of skills,” Peter Zokosky, chair of master of fine arts (MFA) drawing and painting, told The Epoch Times. ....

LAGUNA BEACH, CA Two of the town s venerable arts institutions, Laguna College of Art + Design and Laguna Art Museum, have collaborated on an exhibition of paintings by the art school s Master of Fine Arts students. Opening May 15 at the museum, Emerging Artists 2021, is open to the public in a timed entry. Reservations are required to view these diverse and highly skilled works.
It s great to have a chance to spotlight these remarkable artists at a world-class museum, said Peter Zokosky, exhibition curator and chair of the MFA program in painting and drawing. Laguna Beach art students' paintings capture what life is like in the time of COVID-19

LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. (KABC) The coronavirus pandemic has changed the way we look at our daily lives, and some local art students are putting their perspectives on display.
Master of Fine Arts students at Laguna College of Art and Design have announced their first exhibition of 2021. It s called COVID Times: LCAD Masters Students Respond to the Pandemic.
I think it s a historic record of what this group of artists were doing in Southern California at this point in time, said Peter Zokosky, chair of LCAD MFA program in drawing and painting.
Twenty students of the drawing and painting program are showcasing works they created while in quarantine. ....
