Paul Alivisatos named next president of the University of Chicago

“Throughout his distinguished academic career, Paul has demonstrated the skills and imagination needed to be an inspirational leader, confront the challenges of our time and guide the University of Chicago during a period of enormous opportunity,” said Joseph Neubauer, MBA’65, chair of the University’s Board of Trustees, who led the search for a new president. “He has the vision to further elevate the University’s eminence, uphold its rich traditions and enduring values, and make an impact on higher education and the lives of University students, faculty and staff, as well as enrich the South Side community.”
A native of Chicago, Alivisatos is also a University of Chicago alumnus, having received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry in 1981. Paul Alivisatos elected as University of Chicago's president

After 40 years at UC Berkeley, Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Paul Alivisatos will be returning to his alma mater, the University of Chicago, or UChicago, as its next president.
Alivisatos, who also serves as the Samsung Distinguished Professor in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Research in the campus department of chemistry, will enter his role at UChicago on Sept. 1. He was elected president by the board after “an extensive international search” and a unanimous recommendation from the Trustee Search Committee, according to a letter from Joseph Neubauer, chair of UChicago’s Board of Trustees.

University of Chicago picks Paul Alivisatos as its next president

The University of Chicago has picked Paul Alivisatos to be its next president.
Alivisatos, 61, is leaving his position as executive vice chancellor and provost at the University of California, Berkeley and will take over Sept. 1, the university announced Friday.
Alivisatos was born in Chicago before moving to Greece with his family as a child.
Alivisatos received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry in 1981 from the University of Chicago and will be only the second alum to serve as president in the school’s 130-year history.
“He has the vision to further elevate the university’s eminence, uphold its rich traditions and enduring values, and make an impact on higher education and the lives of university students, faculty and staff, as well as enrich the South Side community,” Joseph Neubauer, chair of the university’s board of trustees, said in a statement issued by the school. ....
