Is it finally over? The Des Moines Symphony will perform the last livestreamed show of its 2020-21 “Live from the Temple” season, titled Fantaisie en Français, at 7 p.m. Thursday. There s one more virtual show, the annual Yankee Doodle Pops, on July 2 before the symphony resumes performances with a live audience with its Water Works Pops shows at Lauridsen Amphitheater in September. After that, the hope is to stage a 2021-22 season post-pandemic style. That means a careful return to in-person audiences, said symphony spokeswoman Megan Helmers. Following our in-person concerts at Water Works Park on Labor Day weekend, our goal is to launch our 84th Season at the Civic Center in September 2021, Helmers said in an email. We hope to have more details to announce sometime in June, including concert dates, repertoire, guest artists, and health and safety protocols for audiences. ....

The Des Moines Symphony will perform its sixth “Live from the Temple” series concert, “Spring Serenade,” in a livestreamed program beginning at 6:30 p.m. March 18. Richard Strauss’ “Serenade in E-flat Major” opens the show with lyrical woodwind and French horn melodies. Gounod’s “Petite Symphonie” and Mozart’s G Minor Symphony will follow. The program concludes with Delius’ “On Hearing the First Cuckoo in Spring,” using strings and clarinets to capture the composer’s impressions of the Norwegian countryside. The performance at the Temple for Performing Arts by a reduced-size orchestra, spaced to ensure musician safety, will be accessible on the symphony’s website, dsmsymphony.org. ....
