Eltingville doctor pleads guilty to prescribing opioids in exchange for sexual favors

Dr. Joseph Santiamo, of Eltingville, seen in this 2005 photo, is accused of writing scripts for more than 100,000 opioid pills when there was no legitimate medical purpose. He also allegedly sought sexual favors from some patients, said authorities.

The various schemes resulted in more than $800 million in fraudulent medical insurance claims, officials previously said.
“For a number of his patients, there was no medical necessity for Santiamo to treat them with oxycodone, nor to prescribe the large quantities that he did,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office said. “In addition, Santiamo solicited sexual favors from certain of his younger patients in exchange for unlawful oxycodone prescriptions.” ....
