Fermanagh in 1991: The young man who meets Mickey Mouse every day


IT IS the dream of every child to spend a day in ‘The Magic Kingdom’ and shake hands with Goofy, Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck.
Well, for Paul Byrne (right), it’s an everyday occurrence! Paul, from Silverstream Court, Enniskillen, is a cultural representative at the Epcot Centre in Disney World, Florida.
The 22-year-old Enniskillen man has been there for the past 12 months and loves every minute of it. He has returned home to see his parents, Frank and Regina Byrne, and family, before heading back to Disney World for another year.
Then it is off to Paris and the opening of the new Euro Disney World in April next year. ....

Clare student's recipe for success at national enterprise awards


A CLARE student has taken second prize in the Intermediate Category at the National Final of this year’s Student Enterprise Programme.
Mae Kivlehan, from Scoil Mhuire Ennistymon, was awarded for ‘Tried & Tested, which was a cookbook with a compilation of recipes from sports stars, celebrities and locals.
The winning student worked under the guidance of her teachers, Laura Garvey and Caitriona Hynes.
The finals of the Local Enterprise Office initiative were broadcast virtually on Friday from Croke Park with An Tánaiste Leo Varadkar and Ambassador Derval O’Rourke speaking with host RTE’s Rick O’Shea, as students and teachers watched on from across the country. ....

Four cases of COVID detected in same cohort at school

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has declared an outbreak at St. Peter Catholic Elementary School in Tecumseh after confirming an additional three positive cases of COVID-19 in the same cohort that was dismissed April 4.
“The affected cohort and the school community has been informed that a variant of concern has been identified in this cohort,” said Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board spokesperson Stephen Fields.

A community challenge has been organized in Cornwall, one that’ll recognize and encourage health-care front-line workers.
It’s being organized by Dairy Queen and the Cornwall Community Hospital Foundation, and the kickoff art work is so impressive you can almost taste it; as part of the challenge there are prizes that include free ice cream cake for a year.
