Two cremation grounds of Purmandal, popularly known as Chhota Kashi of North India, are over-burdened these days because relatives across Jammu are now cremating bodies of their loved ones at the sacred place to avoid the ritual of immersing ashes in the river Ganga at Haridwar.
As per local belief, bodies cremated at Purmanda would automatically attain Moksha and there is no need to collect and immerse ashes of such souls in other rivers.
With an unprecedented spike in COVID deaths in Jammu district, all lockers in crematoriums are full because people have kept ashes of their deceased family members in these lockers so as to immerse at same at Haridwar, after easing of Corona restrictions, for the final salvation . ....

JAMMU, May 18: Veteran BJP leader and former Union Minister, Prof Chaman Lal Gupta died after a prolonged illness at his Gandhi Nagar residence here today, days after undergoing successful treatment for COVID-19 at Narayana Hospital Katra, his family said.
Gupta (87) is survived by his two sons and a daughter.
“He had tested positive for COVID-19 on May 5 and returned from Narayana Hospital on Sunday after successful treatment. His condition suddenly deteriorated in the wee hours and he breathed his last around 5.10 am,” his elder son, Anil Gupta said. ....

Spike in Corona deaths: daily cremations in City cross double mark

JAMMU, May 1: With spike in number of COVID deaths in Jammu, last rites at cremation grounds in city have exceeded the double of what it used to be in normal days and shocking thing to note here is that the crematorium staffers are facilitating the last rites even of Corona dead people without using any protective gears.
Sources at Jogi Gate Cremation Ground in Jammu informed that today cremation of seven Corona dead persons took place there while those at Swarag Ashram Cremation Ground in Shastri Nagar put this number at eight and Shakti Nagar Cremation Ground cremated eight bodies of COVID deceased persons yesterday and today it had two such bodies till last reports. ....
