Richmond Mavericks through to the semi-final of the North Riding Saturday Challenge Cup

RICHMOND MAVERICKS are through to the semi-final of the North Riding Saturday Challenge Cup after beating Tockwith on penalties. It capped a busy week for Mavs whose game against Richmond Town Reserves last Wednesday was abandoned after their player Ryan Howe dislocated his elbow. The game against Tockwith finished 3-3 after normal time. Sam Pickersgill put the Richmond team ahead from the spot before the visitors pulled one back from a free kick. Pickersgill got his second before the visitors hit back again against the run of play. The striker then got his third from the spot only for Tockwith to level with second to go. Mavs keeper Ethan Lansdell was the hero in the shootout, saving the visitors fifth penalty to secure the win.

Review: Sarasota Orchestra focuses on Bach family works

On many levels, the music is reminiscent of Vivaldi mixed with Johann Sebastian, but the genteel fabric, most notably in the slow movement, is tossed up by awkward elbow jabs of sound. It is vigorous and edgy, posing plenty of finger challenges for the violins. Happily, there is never a dull moment in this score. C.P.E Bach offers a more refined style, sensitive and more gracious, fitting with early classical music developed later by Haydn and Mozart. Unfortunately, we don’t hear his music often, and after experiencing this Cello Concerto in A Major (Wq 172), I am dumbfounded as to why.

Review: Sarasota Orchestra shows strength in Serioso chamber concert

Gayle Williams, Correspondent Sarasota Orchestra musicians are handling the adversity and challenges of the pandemic with aplomb. Thursday’s debut of “Serioso,” the latest of their live concerts in Holley Hall, showed off serious talent and considerable ensemble strength in three widely diverse compositions, the last of which knocked our socks off. Violinist Christopher Takeda took the lead in the absence of a conductor and the results were rock solid in Arcangelo Corelli’s Concerto Grosso in F Major, Op. 6 No. 12. The ensemble of 11 string musicians, joined by Jonathan Spivey on harpsichord, confidently captured Corelli’s Baroque style and spirit.   

Richmond Triangle Players Announces Finalists for So QUEER PLAYWRIGHTS FESTIVAL

Each of the finalists will present an excerpt of their work, introduced by them personally, in a collaborative online presentation, available via Video-On-Demand beginning January 15, 2020 and ending January 29, 2020. The works can be viewed for free by anyone across the country. Those viewing the works will be will be sent a survey to determine the winner; those votes, in conjunction with an adjudication committee selected by RTP, will determine the final winner of the Festival. Over the course of the following year, RTP will develop further that winning work, in close collaboration with the chosen playwright, through a series of through a series of private workshop readings and public staged readings, as well as consultations with local artists, mentorship from theatre experts, and the provision of other creative supports. The goal is to give the play a full mainstage production in a future RTP season, possibly as early 2021.
