Alumnus and author returns to Barton Peveril to open theatre

A COLLEGE alumnus and best selling author has opened Barton Peveril’s remodelled theatre. The sixth form college in Eastleigh welcomed back BAFTA award winning, David Nicholls, to open the extensively remodelled Rose Theatre on June 23. The theatre, which underwent a £1.35m reconstructions now boasts 372 seats, fully updated technical infrastructure and offers another, larger functional space for students to practice and perform for college productions. The reopening included a range of performances from students, before Nicholls unveiled a mural commemorating the event. Nicholls, who completed his studies at Barton Peveril in 1985, reminisced of his time at the college and spoke of its inspiration for some of his writing.

Cat rescued after 3 days stuck at the top of a dying cedar tree near Agassiz, B.C.

  VANCOUVER A cat in B.C. s Fraser Valley has been reunited with its owner after spending at least three days stuck in a tree about 35 metres off the ground. The fortunate feline has local tree-cutter Johnathon Prest to thank for rescuing it from the top of a tall cedar just outside of Agassiz, B.C. this week. He made it right to the top, the little bugger, said Prest. He was right on the tip, right on the very last small limb, hanging on for dear life. Prest is the owner of Johnny 5 s Tree Services. He says he s found himself in a lot of precarious situations over the years, but none quite like this one.

Barton Peveril college nominated for Covid-19 response award

A TOWN college has been nominated for a national Covid-19 response award. Barton Peveril Sixth Form College, in Eastleigh, has been nominated for the Covid-19 Response Champions - Schools and Colleges Award, in the Bett Awards 2021. The Covid-19 Response Champions Awards recognises the companies and schools that have responded to the Covid-19 outbreak in a way that has positively impacted on the education, health and wellbeing of the student population during the pandemic. Barton Peveril was nominated for the award for its transition to online learning, a project headed by IT Manager Peter Horner. The project saw 4,000 students continue to attend every timetabled lesson from home in the first lockdown and now the transition has been implemented again in the current closure of colleges.
