The Ancient City of Angkor Wat Had a Population Larger Than Modern-Day Boston, According to New Archaeological Research
Using LiDAR and machine learning, archaeologists estimate the population in the Greater Angkor Region may have hit 900,000.

The massive temple complex that is Cambodia’s Angkor Wat is famed as the world’s largest religious monument. Now, researchers have determined the city’s population at its zenith in the 13th century, and the number is impressive: some 700,000 to 900,000 people likely called the Angkor region home, making it one of the world’s largest pre-modern cities. Compare that with the 2019 estimated population for Boston, at 692,600. ....

LOUISVILLE — For the second time in two years, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has played a role in research by Abbott Labs that may lead to a vaccine for HIV/AIDS.
“It’s kind of remarkable,” said mission co-worker Larry Sthreshley from his office in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). “How many studies are done where nothing significant is found? There have been two major findings from this research.” ....

Collegiate researchers including biology students at Lycoming College and Susquehanna University continue to monitor the health of trout and cold water fisheries in tributaries of the West Branch of the Susquehanna River.
“We really rely on Susquehanna University and Lycoming College staff and students to provide data on the health of streams and value the inventory colleges provide,” said Walt Nicholson, vice president of Susquehanna Trout Unlimited chapter and a retired executive in the water and sanitary field.
Ahead of the April 17 statewide opening day of trout fishing season, the organization held its annual watershed summit in a virtual format. ....
