The only sure path to stop climate change is to zero out greenhouse gas emissions as soon as possible. That’s it. As simple as this sounds, it’s going to be an 
But I find that most people don’t understand the time dimensions of the problem very well.
A useful way to think about the effort and timescales required is to consider the  Carbon Law,  which was coined by my friend Johan Rockström. Despite the name, this isn’t a physical law of the universe but rather a set of recommendations. ....

Gartenfeld Island, in Berlin’s western suburb of Spandau, was once the bellows of Germany’s industrial revolution. It hosted Europe’s first high-rise factory and, until World War II, helped make Berlin, behind London and New York, the third-largest city on Earth.
Today’s Berlin is still a shell of its former self (there are over a hundred cities more populous), and the browbeaten brick buildings that now occupy Gartenfeld Island offer little in the way of grandeur. How Might We?


A couple of months before The Great Shut Down, I attended a three-day class at my college alma mater, called Leadership for Sustainability.  Based on the title, I thought I would learn about programs that would help my company achieve industry-best sustainability ratings and help my team improve our sustainability reporting.  I expected to learn about science-based targets, the Sustainable Development goals, and the Global Reporting Initiative.
We didn’t do any of this.  After the first day, I called home and announced that I was too old for school, and the class probably wasn’t a great use of my time.  However, I had invested in the class so I went back the next day and buckled down to figure out what I could get out of it.  I’m glad I did. ....
