Arabic-language remake of 'Perfect Strangers' assembles all-star cast

DUBAI: After numerous delays, the Arabic-language remake of the Italian hit “Perfect Strangers” is set to begin shooting in February, having assembled an all-star cast of some of the region’s brightest talent, including Oscar-nominee Nadine Labaki, Egyptian superstar Mona Zaki and “The Insult” star Adel Karam.
“We realized we have a project that’s a gift to great actors. Great actors love to have characters like the ones in ‘Perfect Strangers’,” Wissam Smayra, the film’s director, told Arab News.
“Each role in this film has its own magic, its own moments to shine. It’s a very moving story. Each time I read the script I get close to tears.” ....

Arabic remake of Italian movie 'Perfect Strangers' gets major cast

The Arabic remake of 2016 Italian comedy-drama film ‘Perfect Strangers’ will begin shooting on February 2, 2021 and the cast has been revealed.
‘Perfect Strangers’ follows seven lifelong friends, who come together for a dinner and decide to share every text message, email and phone call they receive that evening to prove they have nothing to hide. Their plan ultimately backfires and unravels a web of secrets.
Filming on ‘Perfect Stranger’ in Arabic was postponed twice in 2020 “due to COVID and political turmoil in Lebanon.”
Now, Front Row Filmed Entertainment, Empire Entertainment and Film-Clinic have set a final shooting date and announced the cast. ....

said: “I saw in this project a rare opportunity to work with some of the brightest stars of the Arab world and two of the most influential companies working in the production and distribution of quality cinema in the Mena region, making this a truly Arab creative collaboration, even if adapted from an international concept.”
Haddad Jr added: “2020 has been a discouraging year for all, but seeing everyone’s conviction, commitment and excitement to this amazing project gives us all an infinite amount of positivity.
2021 will surely start with a bang here in the Mena.”

Running a socially-distanced film festival in one of the most populous cities in the world was never going to be straightforward.
Add in the rumour of a royal procession to celebrate the transfer of 22 3,000-year-old mummies to the new National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation, that would bring city centre traffic to a standstill, and the organisers of the Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) were facing logistical challenges on another scale entirely.
In the end, the procession of mummies was delayed until after the festival closes today (December 10) and CIFF president Mohamed Hefzy and head of industry Aliaa Zaky saw CIFF unfold in its traditional hub of the Cairo Opera House complex and the new location of the Marriott Hotel. International industry guests and Egyptian film professionals networked on the terrace and in the high-ceilinged drawing rooms of the historic 19th Gezirah Palace around which the hotel is built. ....
