Veteran actress Khursheed Shahid passes away

LAHORE: Legendary television and stage actor Begum Khursheed Shahid died peacefully in her sleep early morning in Lahore. She was over 95.
Her son, well known actor Salman Shahid, and his wife Tahira Ali, were by her side. She enjoyed music till her last days, even when she could not speak much. She also leaves behind her only grandchild Maha, daughter of Salman Shahid and journalist Beena Sarwar.
Awarded the Pride of Performance late in her career at a time when it held no meaning for her, she was renowned for her no-nonsense character, powerful, sensitive stage and television portrayals and for her professionalism. She was also an accomplished singer and tanpura player who famously accompanied the great classical singer Roshan Ara Begum.
ISLAMABAD: Nine people lost their lives to Covid-19 in the twin cities - four in Islamabad and five in Rawalpindi - on Saturday.
Besides, 431 more cases emerged in the capital and 171 in garrison city. Officials of the capital administration said the deceased, two males and two females, were in the age group of 60-69, 70-79, 50-59. They were residents of E-11, I-10, F-11 and Sihala. The officials said the death toll from the virus had increased to 683.
In the last 24 hours, 4,948 tests were conducted in the capital and the positivity rate remained 8.71 per cent.
There are 12,495 active cases, the officials said, adding Loi Bher has 852 active cases followed by 644 at Tarlai, 591 at Bhara Kahu, 505 at G-6, 443 at G-10, 424 at G-11, 410 in G-9, 407 in I-8, 376 in G-7, 340 in E-11, 335 in I-10, 332 in Rawat, 307 in G-8, 276 in F-11, 258 each in Chak Shahzd, Sohan, 248 in G-13, 246 in Khanna, 242 in F-6, 226 in Alipur, 222 in F-10, 198 in F-8, 187 in Kurri, 148 in I-9, 142

The accident occurred in the jurisdiction of Hassanabdal police station.
According to the injured victims, the family was on their way back to Jalloo village. The deceased were identified as Mussarat Bibi, Jameela Bibi, Rukhsana Bibi, Zainab Bibi and her eight-month-old daughter Marwa.
Upon receiving information about the accident, rescue officials reached the spot and shifted the deceased and injured to Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital from where a woman and her two children were taken to Rawalpindi due to their critical condition.
Hassanabdal police have registered a case and started investigation.
Meanwhile, 10 people were injured when a passenger van they were travelling in fell into a water channel in the jurisdiction of Jand police station.
