Zaida was one of the most highly recruited players in the 2020 class, Weekly said. She has a powerful bat, exceptional defensive skills and a high softball IQ. The training she received in the OC Batbusters organization under Mike Stith and his staff is invaluable. She is a great to addition to our program and we re excited to coach her. ....

Mar 7, 2021 NORMAN Three Oklahoma pitchers combined for a perfect game the Sooners second of the season and OU mashed six home runs in a 17-0 victory over Sam Houston State. The No. 1-ranked Sooners improved to 17-0 with four wins (including three more run-rules) at the Courtyard Marriott Tournament at Marita Hynes Field. Tiare Jennings, Jocelyn Alo, Grace Lyons and Mackenzie Donihoo all hit home runs for the Sooners as did freshmen Paige Knight and Zaida Puni, who each hit their first career home runs in an OU uniform. Alo’s team-leading 13th bomb extended her hitting streak to 31 games. Jennings hit her 11th, Lyons her eighth and Donihoo her third. ....

No. 2-ranked Oklahoma routed the Lobos 33-4 in Saturday’s opener at Grand Canyon University Softball Stadium, then stomped host GCU 14-0 in the nightcap. OU responded to its early deficit with seven runs in the first inning, seven more in the second, 12 in the third and seven again in the fourth. The Sooners OU (11-0) scored 29 in their season-opener at UTEP back on Feb. 11, but somehow were even more dominant against New Mexico, sending 18 batters to the plate batting around twice in the 12-run fourth.
