With only three applicants, Cache GOP cancels special election for Cache County attorney

The Cache County Republican Party has cancelled a special election for the recently vacated Cache County attorney position due to a lack of applicants.
According to a statement from Cache GOP Chair Chris Booth, under Republican Party Bylaws and Utah State code, the party was responsible for nominating three candidates to the Cache County Council. However, the special election in this instance is unnecessary.
âSince only three individuals filed,â Booth wrote in the statement, âthere is no need to hold a special election.â

The three candidates â Cache County deputy attorneys Dane Murray, Jacob Gordon and John Luthy â were submitted to the County Council on Monday, according to the statement. ....

Longtime prosecutor appointed as interim Cache County attorney

Local prosecutor Tony Baird was appointed as the interim county attorney after a unanimous vote from Cache County Council on Tuesday.
âI will make you this commitment: That weâll just keep the boat pointed in the right direction,â Baird said. âAnd thatâs going to be easy because â¦ I work with great people.â
In addition to assisting in the day-to-day operations of the Cache County Attorneyâs Office, County Chair Gina Worthen said appointing an interim attorney was also positive for the community.

Cache County attorney to take new role in Weber County

Cache County Attorney James Swink is stepping away from his elected position to pursue an opportunity with prosecutors in Weber County.
âIâve served 12 years as the Cache County Attorney, and itâs been wonderful,â Swink told The Herald Journal. âI donât think elected officials should serve their lifetimes in their office.â
An announcement of Swinkâs departure was made prior to a ribbon cutting for a new Cache Childrenâs Justice Center on Tuesday. Swink told The Herald Journal that Monday would be his last day at the Cache County Attorneyâs Office.

Cache Children's Justice Center cuts ribbon for new Logan facility

Officials cut the ribbon for the new Cache County Childrenâs Justice Center on Tuesday.
The new facility, a renovated home located at 339 E. 800 North in Logan, is around five times larger than the CJCâs previous building. Officials who spoke at the event said the new CJC will serve as a boon for law enforcement, victimâs advocates and the victims of crime.
The event was attended by citizens, local law enforcement, and county officials â all of whom were given a tour of the facility. Terryl Warner, the director of the Cache CJC, publicly thanked the Malouf Foundation, Big Dâs Construction, the Cache County Council, County Executive David Zook and his predecessor Craig Buttars, as well as many others involved in the new buildingâs acquisition and renovation. ....
