Royal Mail has announced a trial of the first out-of-sight, autonomous scheduled drone flights between the U.K .mainland and an island. The trial will see the company use uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV) flights to deliver personal protective equipment (PPE), Covid testing kits and other mail to the Isles of Scilly.

Therecentarticles on the Maine State Police by the Portland Press Herald and Bangor Daily News are quite alarming. I am a strong supporter of police officers, but it is clear that a change has to happen at the top of the MSP.
I feel for the many Maine troopers who are doing an excellent and honorable job at much less compensation than police receive in most other states. It is they who will be painted with a broad brush as bad.
It is time to right the ship. It is my feeling that the troopers union has been responsible for protecting troopers from facing appropriate punishment and corrective action including dismissal. As a former Massachusetts state trooper (a state police force undergoing similar charges of wrongdoings), I am disappointed in what has happened in both departments. The public deserves and should demand better. ....

James ScanlanThere exists an essentially universal belief that generally reducing adverse criminal justice outcomes will tend to reduce (a) relative racial differences in rates of experiencing the outcomes (as commonly presented in terms of the ratio of the rate for Black individuals to that of white individuals) and (b) the proportion Black individuals make up of persons experiencing the outcomes (compared with the proportion they make up of the population).
The belief underlies the calls for defunding the police that were heard in many places over the past year. The belief also plays an important role in support for criminal justice reforms aimed at generally reducing prison populations, expanding options for pretrial release and diversion programs for defendants with low risk of recidivism, de-incentivizing traffic stops, and modifying police practices in ways that can reduce all adverse intera ....
