Pupils across eight schools in the district outperformed classmates
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The 2021 AzM2 state standardized tests scores are in, bringing Yuma School District One some fantastic news. 11 students from across the district proved their academic excellence by earning perfect test scores.
Each spring, students across the U.S. complete standardized test scores. Arizonans enrolled in 3rd through 8th grade are tested through the AzM2, a standardized test measuring children s reading, writing and mathematical abilities.
District ONE Superintendent James Sheldahl expressed extreme joy on behalf of the pupils excellence saying, In a year of unprecedented challenges, they were able to focus and excel.

Several states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Kansas, and Texas have rolled back their masking requirements, putting superintendents and school boards once again on the hot seat on a question that, at least politically, feels un-winnable: Should they hold fast to their own masking protocols in schools?
With states abdicating their role in masking, districts are bearing the full brunt of opinions from resentful parents and fearful teachers. The availability of vaccines for adults and falling rates of the virus have added to the pressure. While public health officials continue to recommend masking, it’s far less clear at what point it will be safe to let guards down more generally.
District One begins in-person learning: Here’s the plan
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - It s deja-vu as students from Yuma School District One head back into the classroom, again.
This time of year after the pandemic began and with new promise as most teachers receive the COVID-19 vaccine. The District s Superintendent James Sheldahl said about 70% of its teachers have so far received the COVID-19 vaccine.
This thanks to the Yuma County Public Health Services District, which allocated vaccine appointments specifically for teachers to get their doses.
Superintendent Sheldahl said a majority of students would be making the return. However, those families not yet comfortable still have the option to continue distanced learning.

District officials say students will continue with the same school schedule to maintain consistency for everyone
YUMA, Ariz (KYMA, KECY) - Yuma School District One (YSDO) has three weeks to get everything in place to welcome students back to their campus.
In a district governing board meeting on Thursday, Superintendent James Sheldahl spoke about the safety protocols schools would be taking upon reopening schools. He adds that in a survey, parents were asked how many would send their kids back to their regular five-day in-person learning, to which 64% of the parents said yes.
