Never too early : As High Desert residents honor the fallen, some parents use Memorial Day to teach sacrifice

Coast Guard veteran Tyrone Brown spent part of his Memorial Day at his father’s grave in Victorville, where he wiped away tears as he planted an American flag and other patriotic adornments.
“He was a good man, and we were very close,” Brown, 63, said of his father, World War II Navy veteran Fred A. Brown, who was laid to rest in 2004 at Victor Valley Memorial Park and Mortuary on Eleventh Street.
Despite the park canceling this year’s annual Memorial Day ceremony due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Brown and a host of others visited the cemetery to pay their respects to loved ones who served in the military. ....

NBN News | SHARKS SPOTTED AT FINGAL BAY AS MULLET RUN BEGINS


Some incredible photos have emerged of a number of sharks roaming around Fingal Spit at Port Stephens this week.
Sharks are known to the area, but are not commonly spotted, so for Newcastle local James Waldron, the sighting was both exciting and alarming.
An increase in sharks closer to the shore can be expected as this time of the year, as the mullet run begins.
Huge schools of fish, some 200 metres long and 40 metres wide will enter the bay, swimming along beaches from Stockton to Fingal.
While fisherman prepare for the exhilarating run, sharks remain in the area just as eager to capture the fish. ....
