A man who trafficked puppies worth almost £70,000 into the UK and then advertised them for sale online has been banned from owning dogs.
Simon Lawrence, from East Ham, illegally brought dozens of puppies into the country from Ireland, Stratford Magistrates’ court heard.
Newham Council began a months-long investigation into the ring after a potential buyer visited Lawrence’s home in Gresham Road and reported concerns about the welfare of the dogs.

A man who trafficked puppies worth almost £70,000 into the UK and then advertised them for sale online has been banned from owning dogs.
Simon Lawrence, from East Ham in Newham, illegally brought dozens of puppies into the country from Ireland, Stratford Magistrates’ court heard.
Newham council began a months-long investigation into the ring after a potential buyer visited Lawrence’s home in Gresham Road and reported concerns about the welfare of the dogs.
Lawrence had 17 different breeds in the house, the council said, including Chihuahuas, Staffordshire Bull Terriers and Bichon Frise.

Another Newham shisha bar has been shut down for flouting lockdown restrictions.
The Lounge, in Plaistow, was issued a full closure order after council officers and police found it operating a non-essential business while also not complying with face masks or social distancing rules.
The Greengate Street venue, which had already been fined for its actions, must remain unoccupied until May 24 with no unauthorised people allowed in.
Cllr James Beckles, cabinet member for crime and community safety, said: “We will continue to target any venues putting the public at risk by ignoring Covid-19 restrictions.

Some supermarkets are still not dealing with overcrowding issues, a joint operation between Newham Council and police has revealed.
The two-week investigation also found that there were some stores where members of staff and customers were not wearing face masks.
Environmental health, trading standards and licensing officers from the council visited every supermarket, including metro stores and independents, in the borough.
Checking up on more than 80 shops, council officers were also joined by Metropolitan Police officers, who focussed on whether people were wearing face masks.
