Winchester man to stand trial for murder of former son-in-law

A Winchester man accused of shooting and killing his former son-in-law at a Lewiston supermarket parking lot will stand trial.
67-year-old James Brashear was ordered by a judge Wednesday to stand trial on a single charge of first-degree murder.

Brashear allegedly shot 40-year-old John Mast multiple times around 6 p.m. Feb. 5th in front of the Rosauers store on Thain Road.
According to court documents and the testimony of Lewiston Police, Brashear said he killed Mast to prevent an unsupervised visit between Mast and the two children Mast had with his daughter, Rebecca Brashear-Mast.
An arraignment is scheduled for next Wednesday. ....

IMCOM Sustainment has new senior enlisted Soldier


An infantryman who has served two tours in Iraq and four in Afghanistan received a new challenge Friday afternoon.
Command Sgt. Maj. James Brasher became the command sergeant major for the Installation Management Command Directorate-Sustainment. He succeeded Command Sgt. Maj. Jeffrey Adams in a change of responsibility ceremony in Bob Jones Auditorium.
“It’s always humbling to take on new responsibilities,” Brasher said. “And I appreciate the opportunity to continue to serve Soldiers, families and civilians that call our installations home.”
Davis Tindoll, director of IMCOM Sustainment, conducted the ceremony, which marked a milestone for the two senior enlisted Soldiers and their families. “Command Sgt. Maj. Brasher, you will be challenged. I promise you that,” Tindoll said. ....

Hearings delayed for two Lewiston murder cases

A pair of preliminary hearings involving deadly shootings in Lewiston have been delayed.
Hearings for 42-year-old Clyde Ewing, and his 16-year-old son Demetri Ewing were scheduled for Wednesday in Nez Perce County Magistrate Court.
The hearings are now scheduled for March 17th. It’s the third time the hearing has been delayed.
The Ewings have been charged with the Jan. 8th shooting death of Samuel Johns at his home on Seventh Avenue.
Meanwhile, the preliminary hearing for a Winchester man charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of his former son-in-law has been delayed.
James Brashear is accused of shooting John Mast in the parking lot of the Rosauers supermarket in Lewiston last month in what police describe as a child custody dispute. The hearing which had been set for Wednesday is now scheduled for March 31st. (Lewiston Tribune) ....
